Three things worth doing now.
Turn off the water
Find the isolation valve on the cold inlet at the top of the tank and close it. If in doubt, shut off the mains at the meter.
Turn off the power / gas
Switch off the dedicated hot water circuit at the switchboard, or close the gas isolation valve at the unit.
Move what matters
If it's leaking indoors, move anything valuable clear of the water and put down towels.

What counts as a hot water emergency?

A burst or actively leaking tank, water entering the house, scalding water at the tap, a gas smell near the unit, or no hot water at all in a full household. Isolate the water and the power or gas if it is safe to do so, then call.
How quickly can you get to me?

Urgent calls are prioritised ahead of routine work and we attend as quickly as the day allows. Calling is always faster than a form for an active leak.
Should I turn the power off to the hot water system?

If the tank is leaking or empty, yes — switch off the dedicated hot water circuit at the switchboard, or close the gas isolation valve at the unit. Running an electric element in an empty tank will destroy it.
Can you replace a burst tank the same day?

Frequently, yes, where the replacement unit is a common type and the site allows it. We confirm what is possible once we have seen the system.
Is it safe to keep using the water if the tank is leaking?

Cold water is unaffected, but stop using the hot side and isolate the tank. Water pooling near electrical connections or a switchboard is the point at which you should stop and call immediately.
Will I be charged more for an after-hours callout?
